Head Start of Columbus and Edinburgh is currently enrolling for the 2013-2014 School year. Head Start is a free preschool for low-income families with children ages 3 to 5. Classes are 5 days a week/four hours a day. Bus transportation is available.

Do you have a child living in Bartholomew County who is in need of school supplies for the upcoming school year?The Bartholomew County School Supply Assistance Program is accepting registrations until July 19. Call United Way 2-1-1 simply by dialing 2-1-1 or 812-376-6666, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. For Spanish calls, call SUCASA at 812-375-9370, Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm or Tuesday and Thursday, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm to register your child.

When Old Houses Become Like Spouses
Nancy Hiller, designer-builder of custom furniture and cabinetry and the author of the book A Home of Her Own, will discuss how making or restoring a home can be a revelatory process, enlightening homeowners as much about themselves as about the structures on which they are working. This phenomenon is all the more evident in cases where a single person–in her book, Hiller focuses on women without partners–is doing the work. In fact, some of the women Hiller interviewed came to see their home as a kind of partner, a development that raises intriguing and rarely posed questions about the meanings of home.

Dinner & Bikes
May is Bike Month! Please join us on Monday, May 27 from 5pm to 8pm at Eastside Community Center for Dinner and Bikes. Dinner & Bikes is a month-long tour of the central and northeastern U.S., featuring a traveling road show of vegan food and bicycle inspiration. Joshua Ploeg will delight with a vegan and gluten free buffet dinner, Elly Blue will present about her new book, Everyday Bicycling, a friendly, basic guide to bicycle transportation that includes chapters on carrying cargo, family bicycling, and advocacy, and Joe Biel will show a near-complete excerpt from Aftermass, his forthcoming documentary about the history of bicycle activism in Portland. The event is followed with a book signing and time for questions, discussion of local issues, and perusing the traveling bookstore.

Cheese Making Class
Say Cheese! If you are a cheese lover this class is bound to make you smile. Join us as we go through the process of cheese making. You will learn the fundamentals of the cheese making process as well as make and take home two varieties.
Registration is required. Materials are incliuded and sampoles will be abundant. Ages 13 and up. Class will be located at the Historic Henry Breeding Farm in the Kitchen of the barn.
