FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Edinburgh Police Department requested the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a criminal investigation involving an Edinburgh Police Department Officer on Tuesday, December 29.
Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little had been told by one of his officers that the mother of a minor had contacted him about alleged sexual abuses of her child. The suspect in the sexual abuse was another Edinburgh police officer, Michael David Nunez, 33.
Detectives visited the victim’s mother that same Tuesday evening. A forensic interview with the victim was conducted and evidence collected. During the interview, it was learned that the supposed abuse started in 2014.
Investigators tried to speak with the suspect over the phone about the allegations, but he declined to be interviewed. He said was off-duty and said he was working a part-time security job that evening.
At 3 a.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement located the suspect in his car at Camp Atterbury. Due to his actions and comments, he was taken to a nearby hospital under an immediate detention order.
Later that day, the Johnson County Prosecutors Office filed charges against Nunez for two counts of child molesting, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
On Tuesday, January 5, Nunez was arrested by Johnson County Sheriff’s Office detectives immediately after being released from the hospital.
