COLUMBUS, Ind. – Chief of the Columbus Police Department (CPD) Michael Richardson recently awarded two officers for their actions in assisting an older woman by presenting them with Letters of Commendation.
Officers Chris Strickland and Adam Wisenbaugh were dispatched to a local apartment on January 28 to check on the welfare of an elderly woman. When they arrived, they discovered that she did not have food, water, or electricity.
Since a hot meal site was not open, Strickland purchased food for the woman using his own money. Due to her age, Wisenbaugh thought the woman would be more comfortable staying at a local hotel rather than a homeless shelter, so he worked with a local charity to get her a temporary hotel room.
The officers’ supervisor, Sgt. Alyson Eichel, learned of the actions and shared the details with the CPD Command Staff. In the Letter of Commendation, Columbus Chief of Police Michael Richardson commented, “Thank you for taking the extra steps necessary to make sure this resident was properly cared for. It is easy to overlook much of the good work that is done by our law enforcement officers when the focus is only on preventing crime.”
Strickland and Wisenbaugh have both served as Columbus Police officers for nearly six years.
