INDIANAPOLIS – At least eight people have died and many others were injured late Thursday night during a mass shooting in Indianapolis on the southwest side of the city, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) spokesperson Genae Cook.
Officers arrived at FedEx, 8951 Mirabel Rd., near the Indianapolis International Airport, at about 11 p.m. and encountered an active shooter situation. The initial search of the delivery company facility by IMPD revealed eight victims who were pronounced dead at the scene. Several others were injured and taken to area hospitals, one of whom is thought to be in critical condition.
It is believed the shooter then killed himself, ending the threat. Cook spoke to the media early Friday and said, “The officers responded, came in, and did their job. This is a sight no one should ever have to see.”
