COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Thursday morning accident that seriously injured three people continues to be investigated by the Columbus Police Department (CPD).
Officers responded to the three-vehicle crash on County Road 450S near County Road 100W, at around 6:15 a.m. It has been initially determined that Steven Beavers, 65, of Seymour, was driving his pickup east on C.R. 450S when he sideswiped a car operated by Douglas Meek, 50, of Hope, and then collided head-on with another car being driven by Maria Hernandez, 39, of Columbus.
Beavers, Hernandez, and a passenger in the Hernandez vehicle, Mariela Gonzalez, 36, of Columbus, were all seriously hurt in the accident. The three injured people were flown by separate medical helicopters to Indianapolis for treatment. Meek was not hurt.
The crash is being investigated by accident reconstructionists from CPD and the Indiana State Police.
