JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation jobber Milestone Contractors closed the State Road 44 bridge over Sugar Creek Overflow, between County Road 700E and Sugar Creek Road, last weekend so a superstructure replacement project could begin. The bridge is expected to be shut down for about 60 days.
The project is part of a $6 million asphalt resurface and roadway reconstruction contract that will repave S.R. 44, between Franklin and Shelbyville. Plans are to reconstruct the roadway at the I-65 interchange and add traffic lights.
Work began in early April and is expected to be completed by next June. Alternating lane closures will continue through the summer as paving progresses.
