COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus Police Department (CPD) officer was involved in a shooting on the northside of Columbus on Sunday, shortly after 4:00 a.m.
CPD responded to the 3300 block of Woodland Parkway in regards to a report of a suspicious person walking around a home. Police located an armed suspect outside of the home. A short time later, an officer discharged his firearm an undetermined number of times striking the suspect.
Other officers on scene rendered medical aid to the adult, white male subject. The suspect was then transported to Columbus Municipal Airport where he was airlifted by an IU Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. The officer involved in the incident was not injured.
A firearm was recovered at the scene. Indiana State Police is assisting CPD with the investigation.
