SEYMOUR, Ind. – For the first time since 2013, Seymour Mayor Matt Nicholson is looking to grow the city’s physical boundaries. The city is proposing the annexation of a total of 719 acres, most of which is agricultural ground, south of the city, between State Road 11 and North County Road 975E, near the new Burkart Boulevard extension.
Mayor Nicholson said the annexation makes sense for the future of Seymour, “If we want to grow, this is the direction it’s going to happen.”
The city is setting up the area for future residential, commercial, and industrial development. The annexation also will provide city services to residents in the annexation area including trash and recycle collection, snow removal and street maintenance, public transit, and police and fire protection.
Six in-person community outreach meetings have been scheduled at the Seymour Community Center, 107 S. Chestnut St. Three have already taken place and three more are set for 6 p.m. this Wednesday, and next week on July 20 and July 22. You can attend virtually by calling 812-522-4020 for login information. Or, you may submit annexation questions to dboas@seymourin.org.
