COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to a fire alarm on Sunday, just before 10 a.m., at The Enclave Apartments, 275 North Marr Rd.
Firefighters determined that a sprinkler head on the balcony of a third-story apartment was showering water, and that caused the alarm to go off. They could not get any occupant in the residence to respond so they breached the door and initiated a search. After confirming no one was inside, crews moved to the balcony.
CFD viewed evidence on the balcony that a fire had occurred and had been extinguished by the activation of the sprinkler system. The blaze caused damage to the exterior vinyl siding as well as a portion of the wooden structure on the balcony. Firefighters confirmed the fire was isolated to the balcony area.
No one was injured. According to investigators, damages are estimated at approximately $5,000.
