COLUMBUS, Ind. – Indiana is closing in on more than one million cases of coronavirus reported since the first was confirmed on March 6, 2020.
Last Friday, the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) reported another 2,303 cases of the disease bringing the total of Hoosiers infected to 996,341. The state was beginning to see a decline in daily cases this past spring before the Delta variant surge.
ISDH also announced that 15,713 Indiana residents have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
Health officials are continuing to urge Hoosiers to get vaccinated against the virus. Currently, 56.7% of the state’s population is fully vaccinated. According to ISDH, 75% is needed to reach herd immunity.
