SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) released information Thursday about the apprehension of a theft suspect on November 11.
Home Depot Security alerted police that an individual who had been suspected of stealing merchandise on several occasions was currently in the Seymour store and placing articles in a shopping cart. When the man left the location with items in a cart, investigators stopped him and then placed him under arrest.
The suspect, Robert Rayborn, 54, of Louisville, was immediately interviewed and allegedly admitted to taking $1,226 in merchandise from the Seymour Home Depot on November 5, and $2,133 worth of goods on November 10. Rayborn had $746 in merchandise in his cart on November 11 when he was taken into custody.
Detectives recovered additional items from the man’s car that police say he told them were from previous thefts at Home Depot in Seymour, Lowe’s in Madison, and JC Penney in Seymour.
The man supposedly admitted he used the proceeds from thefts to support a drug habit. SPD says he also confessed to taking merchandise from the Seymour Home Depot about 30 times this year.
Rayborn was charged with theft, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, and criminal trespass. The suspect is also wanted in Clark County, Indiana, in Boone County, Kentucky, and in Clermont County, Ohio, for various offenses. He was transported to the Jackson County Jail.
