TRAFALGAR, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor Olympus Painting began work today, Monday, April 18, on a $97,000 bridge painting contract on State Road 135 over Barnes Creek. The bridge is between Morgantown and Trafalgar at County Line Road and C.R. 675W in southwestern Johnson County.
Traffic will be shifted and a 10-foot width limit will be in place while work is in progress. INDOT says the contract is expected to be complete by the end of May.
Painting is a preservation technique that extends the life of bridges. Prior to painting, beams and other parts of the structure are sandblasted to remove rust and the new coat of paint acts as a sealant to protect from corrosion.
