COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) is welcoming six new firefighters to the team. They were sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday’s Board of Public Work and Safety Meeting held at Columbus City Hall. The hires fill vacancies left by recent retirements and lateral fire agency transfers and take the department to full staffing of 95 sworn firefighters.
Wyatt Barkes, of Columbus, is a 2016 graduate of Columbus North High School and a 2020 graduate of Western Governors University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He is an EMT and has other certifications.
Christopher Moon, of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of Columbus East High School. He has been employed by other area fire departments and is an EMT.
Daniel Pennington, of St. Paul, graduated from Shelbyville High School in 2008 and from Lincoln College of Technology in 2012. He has served in the U.S. Army and is an EMT.
Mitchel Tuttle, of Columbus, is a 2009 graduate of Greensburg High School and studied Criminal Justice at Anderson University. He served seven years as a Greensburg Police Department officer.
Patrick Volland, of Columbus, is a 2013 graduate of Columbus East High School. He is a member of the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department and Columbus Township Fire and Rescue.
Nickolas Zickler, of Greenwood, is a 2019 graduate of New Palestine High School and a 2022 graduate of Ivy Tech Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. He is also an EMT.
