NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at a rural Jennings County address on Friday afternoon.
ISP detectives indicated that at about 2:30 p.m., Jennings County Sheriff’s Office SWAT members responded to an address in the 4000 Block of West County Road 175N to serve an arrest warrant on Devin C. Lark, 29, of Seymour. He was wanted on several felony warrants.
Lark fled on foot and deputies pursued him. While trying to arrest him, he allegedly produced a gun and refused to drop it when ordered to. A deputy fired a single shot and struck him. Officers provided medical attention and CPR. He was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured in the incident. The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) requested that the Indiana State Police conduct the investigation, which is ongoing. At its conclusion, the case will be presented to the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office.
The deputy’s name is not being released at this time. JCSO says the deputy will be placed on administrative leave, per normal protocol.
