COLUMBUS, Ind. – Hamilton Community Center Ice Arena Manager Carleen Fry is skating a marathon on the ice in hopes of raising money for a girl’s locker room. The Skate Marathon is 289 laps around the rink which is equivalent to 26.2 miles. As of Monday, Fry has logged 243 laps.
Fry noted the exponential growth in interest in hockey, prompting the need for separate facilities to accommodate boys and girls. As of now, female hockey players are making use of the equipment room and bathrooms to change and prep, but space is limited.
“Half of the camaraderie of the sport of hockey happens behind the locker room doors. We don’t want our females missing out on the opportunity to partake in the bonding experience,” Fry said.
