SEYMOUR, Ind. – Home Depot Asset Protection called the Seymour Police Department on Wednesday reporting a man had supposedly walked out of The Home Depot in Seymour with several cordless tools without paying.
Troopers with the Indiana State Police (ISP) saw the suspect vehicle traveling south on Interstate 65 at the 42-mile marker and attempted to stop it, but ISP says the driver disregarded them and attempted to flee. A pursuit began as the car continued south into Scott County.
The chase went through the Scottsburg area and then east toward Jefferson County. At one point, the driver allegedly threw a handgun from the vehicle in a construction area. It was later recovered. The car eventually struck a barrier and came to a stop near State Roads 3 and 350 in Scott County.
The driver, Charles Lester Dexter Jr., 44, of Jeffersonville, was arrested for resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, a handgun charge, and several outstanding Harrison County warrants.
Seymour Police Department investigators did recover the stolen property from The Home Depot. Dexter removed a total of 14 Milwaukee cordless power tools with a value of over $3,000.
Investigators will forward the information to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office requesting Dexter also be charged with theft.
