COLUMBUS, Ind. – Several Columbus City Utilities (CCU) employees recently attended the Indiana Water Environment Association (IWEA) conference in Fort Wayne. IWEA is dedicated to preserving Indiana’s waterways by educating its members and the citizens of Indiana about the importance of the water environment.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Travis Calhoun received the IWEA Tumble Bug Award which recognizes IWEA committee members, program presenters, and others who labor industriously on behalf of the Association. CCU congratulates Calhoun on his continued efforts to protect Indiana’s waterways.
Calhoun and Chris Murray, Wastewater Plant Operator, accepted the IWEA 2023 Biosolids Award for Columbus City Utilities. It recognizes utilities that make significant contributions to the development and implementation of cost-effective, environmentally safe, and publicly acceptable biosolids beneficial use practices, which recycle nutrients, improve soil conditions, or otherwise conserve valuable natural resources. CCU was selected due to not having any violations in the past year, meeting compliance requirements, and having renewable resources.
Murray and Calhoun also completed the IWEA Leadership Development Institute program. The curriculum is specifically designed for water and wastewater professionals looking to advance their careers in the industry. Students in the 10-course program meet over a 12-month period. Each course is handpicked and structured to best develop and inspire future water industry leaders.
