SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) went to Seymour Middle School Monday morning to investigate a traffic accident involving a 14-year-old student who was struck while walking in a crosswalk.
The student was treated for injuries sustained to her upper extremities.
The driver of the car involved initially fled the scene but later called the school to check on the girl. Brian Carpenter, 55, of Seymour, was soon placed under arrest and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury.
SPD urges motorists to be extra vigilant in school zones and around school buses, especially during pick-up and drop-off times.
