NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) received a dispatch last Tuesday, February 5, at 2:30 a.m., about a possible sexual battery.
Officers spoke with the victim and determined that an assault of a sexual nature had taken place.
Police located the suspect, Derian Michael Gresham, 26, of North Vernon, and were able to establish probable cause to detain him. After he was interviewed by NVPD detectives, it was established that there was probable cause to arrest him.
Gresham was remanded into the Jennings County Jail under the preliminary charge of rape. Later, Gresham allegedly consented to provide a DNA sample. The suspect is still incarcerated.
