COLUMBUS, Ind. – UPDATE: The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was called to 901 Third St., Columbus Family Dental Center, for a reported fire on Tuesday at around 3:45 a.m.
CFD and Columbus Police officers found fire coming through the roof as they arrived. Firefighters entered the business to attack the flames but conditions on the interior deteriorated. Fire hydrant pressure fluctuations forced the crew to pull out of the building.
With heavy fire gaining ground in the attic space of the building, crews set up two master streams from the Columbus Fire and Columbus Township Fire Department aerial trucks. The elevated water streams operated for about an hour before the blaze was marked under control. Much of the roof structure was destroyed.
As firefighting efforts were underway, the business owners arrived and spoke to investigators. Dr. Laura Bracken- DDS told CFD the business has operated for 20 years in the current location.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Damages to the building were extensive. No damage estimate was provided at this time.
Traffic restrictions are in place for morning commuters while firefighters and investigators remain at the scene. No injuries were reported.
