COLUMBUS, Ind. – Six Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) high school seniors were recognized at last week’s 28th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, organized by the African American Pastors Alliance. The event was held on MLK Day, Monday, January 20.
Each recipient was awarded a $1,000 MLK Scholarship, with matching funds from Ivy Tech Community College and IU Columbus, plus an additional $1,500 scholarship from the African American Foundation for their sophomore year.
Together, these awards could total $4,500 per student.
The BCSC scholarship recipients were celebrated for their academic achievements, community involvement, and extracurricular leadership.
- Macee Thomas (Columbus North): Aspiring Italian-speaking interior designer passionate about literature and cultural exchange
- Gage Shrader (Columbus East): Future registered nurse, active in service organizations like Umoja and Key Club
- Lucynda Destin (Columbus East): First-generation college student with a focus on justice in education, recognized for academic excellence and leadership
- Andergley Exilien (Columbus North): Multilingual student leader pursuing a medical career, active in the nationally recognized yearbook and C4 nursing program
- Karma Jackson (Columbus North): Nursing pathway student excelling in academics and track and field, and active in the Multicultural Club
- Rahianna Logan (Columbus East): Volleyball MVP and academic all-state honoree, recognized for her leadership and dedication to community service
