COLUMBUS, Ind. – The City of Columbus will observe the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a remembrance ceremony on Saturday, September 11, at city hall. It will be held outside and begin promptly at 8:40 a.m. Everyone in the community is welcome.
A moment of silence will be observed to correspond with the attacks, beginning at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
The ceremony will include an emergency responder radio dispatch to honor the nearly 3000 first responders and citizens who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on the United Airlines flight that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Members of the Columbus Fire and Police Department Color Guard will be participating in the event. The September 11 memorial observance is scheduled to last about 30 minutes.
