INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Conservation Officers are again encouraging Indiana hunters to donate some of their harvested deer to help feed hungry Hoosiers in 2022.
The Sportsmen’s Benevolence Fund, which is administered by the DNR Division of Law Enforcement, provides grants to several organizations to pay for processing fees when hunters donate legally harvested deer.
Hunters can drop off field-dressed deer at a local participating processor where the processing fees will be paid for by these grants. Venison burger will then be created to distribute to food banks, which then give venison to soup kitchens and food pantries.
In 2021, Hoosiers donated 879 harvested deer resulting in 45,326 pounds of venison handed out.
