NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a weekend traffic accident involving a vehicle that struck a residence in Country Squire Lakes. On Saturday, deputies located a car that had crashed into a home and came to rest in the living room.
In the house, an adult man’s right leg was trapped underneath the vehicle. The homeowner told deputies that the driver had fled on foot. EMS personnel were able to extract the injured male from underneath the vehicle and he was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment.
Investigators were able to find the registered owner of the crashed vehicle at a house in Country Squire Lakes. He was identified as David Sams Jr., 40, of North Vernon, and he was determined to be the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
It was also suspected that Sams was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was treated at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for minor injuries.
The suspect was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, operating while intoxicated with a previous conviction, and leaving the scene of an accident-causing serious bodily injury.
