INDIANAPOLIS – The National Weather Service (NWS) has announced that an Areal Flood Watch is in effect for Bartholomew and surrounding counties from late Thursday evening through late Friday night. The Flood Watch was issued because of the inordinate amount of rain that is predicted for the area during the period.
Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Jennings, Brown, Shelby, and Decatur Counties are included in the Flood Watch.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Moderate to heavy rain will overspread much of south-central Indiana beginning late Thursday and then persist throughout much of the day on Friday. Rainfall totals of two-to-three inches are possible.
Residents should continue to monitor local weather forecasts for possible Flood Warnings that may be declared by NWS.
