INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana University Health, the state’s largest hospital system, announced an annual income of $343 million last year, nearly tripling its 2022 income of $121 million, all while decreasing the cost of care.
Hoosiers for Affordable Healthcare, a 501(c)(4) coalition founded in 2020 to advocate for policies that lead to lower healthcare prices in Indiana, particularly hospital prices, celebrated the market leader for lowering prices. Al Hubbard, the Board Chairman of Hoosiers for Affordable Healthcare called on all Hoosier hospital systems to follow the lead of IU Health.
Hubbard said, “IU Health continues to set a great example across our state. It has demonstrated that a hospital can lower prices and protect its bottom line if leadership is committed to doing so. For too long, Indiana’s healthcare systems have raked in record profits by charging some of the most expensive prices in the country, while still claiming non-profit status. IU Health is demonstrating that there is a better, more cost-effective way to provide world-class care to Hoosiers,”
He continued, “IU Health’s commitment to lowering prices to the national average represents a meaningful step forward in addressing Indiana’s healthcare costs which find Hoosiers paying the 7th highest prices in the nation for hospital care.”
