NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop near County Road 75E on Friday afternoon. After witnessing a violation, a deputy pulled over William Bowling, 48, of North Vernon.
Jennings County Central Dispatch advised that Bowling was a registered Sexually Violent Predator and that he had never received a driver’s license. The officer also learned that the suspect was not in compliance with the conditions of his Sex Offender Registry.
After further investigation, the deputy also allegedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug-related items in the vehicle.
Bowling was arrested, incarcerated at Jennings County Jail, and preliminarily charged with:
- Failure to Register as a Sex Offender (Level 5 Felony)
- Possession of Meth (Level 6 Felony)
- Possession of Marijuana (B Misdemeanor)
- Possession of Paraphernalia (C Misdemeanor)
- Operating a Motor Vehicle without ever receiving a license (C Misdemeanor)
Sheriff Freeman stated, “This incident highlights how important the Reserve Deputy Program is to the sheriff’s office. Our Reserve Deputies donated 310 hours in October alone, all to increase the safety of our residents. In that time Reserve Deputies made several arrests and traffic stops.”
