COLUMBUS, Ind. – Officials at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana announced on Friday that to protect patients and staff, they have changed their visitor restrictions at the inpatient facility. Because of COVID-19, traditional in-person visitation is no longer permitted.
Other health care agencies discontinued visits weeks ago and although the Our Hospice center is not a residential facility but a temporary solution for hospice acute cases, it was decided that now is the time to implement this protective measure because pending and confirmed COVID-19 positive hospice patients are currently being admitted to the inpatient unit.
In lieu of in-person visits, the local hospice organization is offering social calls via a phone or computer and also “patio visits,” where up to two visitors spend time with a patient through the glass on the patio door. “We know it is not the same as being in the room, but we are fortunate to have the capability to allow both virtual and patio visits,” said Our Hospice President Laura Leonard.
