INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Governor Eric Holcomb signed an executive order this week requiring Indiana residents to wear masks during certain situations starting this Monday.
The mandate applies to those aged eight and older in indoor public spaces, commercial entities, or transportation services, and also outside in public spaces when you cannot socially distance. Masks are also strongly recommended for ages 2 through 7.
Schools will require face coverings for students in grades 3 through 12, faculty, staff, volunteers, and anyone else in school buildings. In addition, masks will be mandatory at schools for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities unless those activities are considered strenuous.
While many questions abound on how the wearing of masks could be enforced across the state, Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers would like to see residents choose to wear them. “My best thing to tell the community is to voluntarily wear them. In order to keep this disease from spreading, wear the mask in public,” said Myers. “We want to take care of everybody and do it constitutionally.”
