CLIFFORD, Ind. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis issued a Flood Warning at 11 p.m. on Wednesday for Haw Creek, near Clifford. It will be in effect until 2 a.m. on Friday, March 6. The Flood Warning has been extended for the Flatrock River until late Saturday evening, and for the East Fork White River in Columbus until late Sunday morning.
Minor flooding is occurring, and moderate flooding is forecast as 2 to 5 inches of rain has fallen.
The flood stage for Haw Creek is 12 feet. It was expected to crest at 15.1 feet overnight Wednesday/Thursday, and then fall back below flood stage by Thursday evening. NWS said that the high water from Haw Creek could also impact Columbus. Water was approaching 25th Street and State Street (State Road 46), but both roads remain open at this time.
Flood stage for the Flatrock River near Columbus is 11 feet. At midnight on Thursday morning, the water was at almost 14 feet. The river is expected to crest at around 15.5 feet on Thursday afternoon and fall below flood stage by Saturday afternoon.
The East Fork White River at Columbus flood stage is 9 feet. At midnight on Thursday morning, it was almost at 10 feet. It is expected to crest at around 13.8 feet on Friday morning and then fall below flood stage late Saturday night.
