Former Jackson County deputy arrested for improperly using 'Flock' system

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. - The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) says a former deputy was taken into custody Monday, August 31, on charges related to improperly accessing license plate reader (Flock) data. 

On August 14, JCSO contacted the Indiana State Police (ISP) after an internal audit of the department’s Flock camera access revealed Deputy Skylar Thompson's improper use of the system.   

The audit revealed that Thompson, 31, allegedly searched the same license plate number more than 2,000 times between December 2025 and August 2026 through access to his Flock account. 

ISP-Sellersburg Post detectives investigated and presented the findings to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. As a result, the suspect was arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Official Misconduct (Level 6 Felony)
  • One count of Fraud (Class A Misdemeanor)

His initial appearance in the Jackson County Circuit Court will soon be scheduled. 

Thompson is no longer employed with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
