GREENFIELD, Ind. - An Indiana State Police investigation has led to the arrest of 33-year-old Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy James Heneghan on charges of intimidation, official misconduct, and fraud.
The case began in April 2026, when authorities were asked to investigate allegations of intimidation involving Heneghan. The Sheriff's Office subsequently placed him on leave.
Detectives initiated the investigation following reports of threatening text messages sent by Heneghan to another individual. During their inquiry, investigators uncovered evidence that Heneghan had supposedly engaged in the unauthorized use of automatic license plate reading cameras, conducting searches specifically targeting acquaintances.
Following collaboration with the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office, detectives secured an arrest warrant. Heneghan was taken into custody Thursday morning, September 24, and booked into the Hancock County Jail.
While these charges are serious, all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
