COLUMBUS, Ind.– The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is investigating after a report of a bomb threat and suspicious item found at a local medical service provider on Tuesday, December 23.
COLUMBUS, Ind.– The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is investigating after a report of a bomb threat and suspicious item found at a local medical service provider on Tuesday, December 23.
Officers were dispatched to Centerstone, 720 North Marr Road, regarding suspicious materials found in the parking lot that the callers believed could be a bomb.
When the police arrived, they set up a perimeter around the item, which was located in the parking lot, approximately 50 feet from the building. Centerstone was evacuated.
While there, officers also learned that the week prior, an employee had received a message threatening to blow up the building.
The CPD Hazardous Devices Unit decided it was likely not an explosive device. The item was then taken to a secure location to determine its exact nature.
Upon examining the items, investigators believe someone used household materials to make a hoax device that appeared to be an explosive from the outside.
The investigation into last week’s threat and how the hoax device got to the parking lot is ongoing.
