COLUMBUS, Ind. - A motorcyclist was hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident on 3rd Street on Friday evening, April 17.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) and other first responders were called to the 3rd Street Bridge, near West State Road 46 and State Road 11, at around 7:15 p.m. regarding a personal injury crash.
CPD, firefighters, and EMS found that a motorcycle had collided with an SUV. The 52-year-old male driver of the motorcycle had significant injuries to his legs and possible injuries to his head.
Officers rendered first aid until medical personnel took over care. The man was transported by helicopter to an Indianapolis-area hospital for further treatment.
The 48-year-old female driver of the SUV was not injured.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. State Road 46 was closed for approximately an hour while the scene was investigated and cleaned up.
