GENEVA TOWNSHIP, Ind. - Scipio-Geneva Fire Rescue, the Jennings County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), and Jennings County EMS were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of Honeylocust Place in Country Squire Lakes at around 3 p.m. on Sunday. Initial reports indicated a male occupant was still inside the residence.
Before the arrival of fire personnel, neighbors and JCSO deputies attempted to rescue the individual. Due to the intensity of the fire and hazardous conditions, those efforts were unsuccessful.
Upon arrival, Engine-22 crews deployed two attack lines and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while simultaneously conducting a primary search of the structure.
During the search, crews located one victim. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified and will be assisting with the investigation into the cause of the fire.
