RIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. - A two-vehicle head-on crash on US 50 in western Ripley County on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a 37-year-old Jefferson County man.
Shortly before 3 p.m., emergency personnel responded to US 50 at County Road 600W, near Holton in Ripley County, following reports of a crash involving an SUV and a truck pulling a trailer. Initial responding officers found the car overturned in the roadway, and the truck overturned off the north side of the roadway.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, Tyler Dukes, age 37, of Madison, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck, Richard Murray, age 26, of Spring Hill, Florida, was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Indiana State Police (ISP)-Versailles District Crash Reconstruction Team conducted the initial investigation into the crash. It indicates that Dukes was eastbound on US 50, and for an unknown reason, his SUV crossed the centerline into the path of Murray’s westbound truck. The vehicles collided nearly head-on in the westbound lane.
The ISP investigation remains ongoing. Toxicology results on both drivers are pending at this time.
