Bartholomew County mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus

COLUMBUS, Ind. -The Bartholomew County Health Department (BCHD) has warned that various Bartholomew County mosquitoes have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

According to the official CDC website, "West Nile virus is most commonly spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito...Some people develop mild illness with flu-like symptoms, such as fever with headache or body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. Most people with mild illness recover completely, but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months."

The Bartholomew County Health Department has made a recommendation to: 

• Take special precautions when outdoors when mosquitoes are most active between dusk and dawn,
• Use DEET containing insect repellent
