Columbus firefighters battle car fire on Gilmore Street

COLUMBUS, Ind. - A vehicle fire parked outside of a residence briefly closed the 2300 block of Gilmore Street on Friday morning, September 4.

The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) arrived within minutes and extinguished a fully involved blaze in a minivan that was reported to have a mechanical issue. 

Crews were dispatched just after 9:30 a.m. for a report of a car on fire parked next to a home. When they arrived, they found the minivan fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire in a short time.

Firefighters spoke with the vehicle's owner, who stated that the vehicle had been experiencing radiator trouble. The owner also said the minivan was used earlier in the morning and the blaze occurred soon after. Fire crews believe the fire was directly related to the reported mechanical problem. 

No one was injured, and a damage estimate was not provided.

CFD warns residents that a vehicle with mechanical or electrical issues can lead to a fire, and parking near a structure can lead to an increased risk of property damage or to building occupants.
