TRAFALGAR, Ind. - Trafalgar Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a two-car head-on accident at the intersection of State Road 135 and Spearsville Road (County Road 500W) in southwestern Johnson County, near Trafalgar, just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
When emergency crews arrived, they found several individuals entrapped in their vehicles. Rescue units from Bargersville and Morgantown, a medic, and Lifeline medical helicopter were summoned to assist.
One person was pronounced deceased at the scene, and another was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Emergency crews worked to extricate two additional occupants, one of whom was flown by Lifeline to Methodist in critical condition. The other was transported by ambulance in critical condition.
In all, three patients were transported in critical condition to Indianapolis area hospitals, and one died at the scene of the crash.
The victim was identified as Cary Dean Carlile, 59, of Morgantown.

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The City of Columbus announced Wednesday that the Columbus Encampment Task Force has been named the 2026 Advocate of the Year by the United Way of Bartholomew County, recognizing the Task Force’s collaborative efforts to address the unhoused population and expand access to permanent housing in the community.
