South-Central Indiana upgraded to Extreme Heat Warning

SOUTH-CENTRAL, Ind. - South-Central Indiana has been upgraded from a Heat Advisory to an Extreme Heat Warning. The Warning is issued for all south-central Indiana Counties from Noon Tuesday through Thursday at 8 p.m.

Dangerous heat and humidity will create hazardous conditions throughout the week for residents in Bartholomew, Johnson< Jackson< Jennings, Brown, Decatur, Shelby, and Morgan Counties.

Tuesday through Friday: Extreme Heat Risk (Level 4 of 4). Heat index values will climb to over 100° each day, with peak heat indices of 105° to 109° expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

Overnight temperatures will only drop to around 80°, providing little relief from the heat and causing an increased risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations.

The National Weather Service recommends that you:

• Limit outdoor activities, especially during the hottest part of the day.
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
• Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded locations.
• Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Check on elderly family members, young children, neighbors, and anyone without adequate cooling.
