COLUMBUS, Ind. - U.S. Rep. Jefferson Shreve visited NexusPark and the Circle K Fieldhouse this week, meeting with Columbus Parks and Recreation Director Nikki Murphy and NexusPark Fieldhouse Manager Martavius Mims to learn more about the community’s growing sports, recreation, and tourism hub.

During the visit, Shreve toured the multipurpose turf fields and hardwood courts inside the Circle K Fieldhouse and stopped by the department’s summer day camp, where campers were enjoying a science demonstration. Murphy shared how NexusPark is increasingly being used as a benchmark for community recreation and redevelopment projects.

The discussion included fieldhouse utilization trends, with Mims describing seasonal fluctuations and strategies to increase summer usage. Shreve also inquired about former parks board member John McCormick, a key supporter of youth sports and NexusPark who helped drive major dollars in donations before his passing in 2022.

Murphy highlighted NexusPark’s growing role in sports and event tourism, including tournament scheduling that helps support local hotels, and explained how future development around the campus will help address parking needs. The group also noted popular community events at the facility, including the annual Easter egg hunt, often described as “the most exciting 30 seconds you’ll ever see.”

Shreve discussed opportunities to expand regional partnerships and referenced the success of Grand Park in Westfield as an example of how sports facilities can grow usage and economic impact.
