COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund is bringing the heat back to NexusPark on Friday, November 6, as the Columbus Fire Department's (CFD) seven rookies compete to make the best chili and take on last year’s reigning champion.
The annual Chili Cook-Off begins at 5 p.m. and continues until the chili runs out. Guests can stop by NexusPark Entrance 2 or drive up to pick up a bowl with a free-will donation.
All proceeds benefit the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund, which helps purchase new toys, books, and other items for local children during the holiday season. Last year, the Cheer Fund provided Christmas gifts to approximately 1,500 children in Bartholomew County.
The holiday spirit continues with the annual Kamp Out for Kids, beginning Friday, November 6, at 10 a.m. and running through 3 p.m. Saturday, November 7. CFD Station #1 at 11th and Washington streets will collect new toys, books, and monetary donations.
Families who need holiday assistance can call 812-375-2216 to sign up. Community members interested in volunteering for the Cheer Fund’s public boxing days can register through the United Way Volunteer Portal.
More information about holiday assistance, volunteering, and ways to support the Cheer Fund is available at ColumbusFiremensCheerFund.org.
This year's Cheer Fund Delivery Day is Saturday, December 12, at 8 a.m. Volunteers will help load holiday gift boxes into families’ vehicles as the Cheer Fund continues its longstanding tradition of bringing Christmas joy to children throughout Bartholomew County.
