FRANKLIN, Ind. - The City of Franklin Fire Department Chief Joshua Snyder and Compass Park CEO Mike Spencer held a press conference to discuss updates on residents displaced by the Compass Park fire and the investigation into the fire's cause on Monday, April 13.
Around 55 Compass Park senior residents were evacuated following a large fire at an unoccupied, newly constructed section of the building.at Compass Park on Red Skelton Circle in Franklin on Friday morning, April 10.
According to CEO Mike Spencer, while the damage to the occupied sections was less extensive, the senior residents displaced by the fire have been relocated to a nearby hotel and/or are staying with family.
Repair crews are working to confirm the building's safety and repair damaged appliances, and displaced residents are expected to be able to return to their homes within the week.
Until then, all residents will be transported by bus back to Compass Park for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and other extracurricular activities daily.
According to Fire Chief Snyder, the Fire Marshall is expected to start a formal investigation into the cause of the fire after three weeks. Both Snyder and Spencer thanked the Franklin community for their extensive fundraising assistance following the catastrophic damage caused by the fire.
