Indiana State Police conducting Jackson County inmate death

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. - Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Sellersburg Post were requested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department to begin an investigation after a Jackson County Jail inmate was found unresponsive in his jail cell on Sunday, August 16.

The initial investigation indicated that Jackson County Jail Inmate Amuel A. Hall, age 44, had recently been arrested and had remained incarcerated in the jail until he was found unresponsive in his housing area on Sunday, August 16, at around 10 p.m.

Upon finding him, jail staff immediately rendered first aid and contacted local EMS and fire department personnel. Hall was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The initial investigation has indicated that Hall was alone in his housing area when he became unresponsive, and there is no indication that foul play on the part of any other inmates or jail staff occurred prior to him becoming unresponsive.

The investigation remains ongoing. The results of the autopsy and toxicology tests are still pending.
