COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus City Council seeks residents of the City of Columbus or Bartholomew County who are interested in serving on the Columbus Human Rights Commission.

The Commission’s primary responsibility is to enforce the City’s anti-discrimination ordinance, which prohibits discrimination in housing,  employment, public accommodation, credit, and education based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, and familial status (in housing only).

Commissioners are appointed by the City Council for a three-year term beginning in April and serve without pay.

The City Council is seeking candidates who represent the community's diversity and are willing to devote time and commitment to making Columbus a fully inclusive community.

For more information or to be considered for an appointment, contact the Human Rights Commission office at 812-376-2532. Members of the public interested in applying for this volunteer position will be provided an applicant questionnaire, which is available electronically on the City's website or by request to humanrights@columbus.in.gov.

Questionnaires should be returned to the Commission office in City Hall or e-mailed to humanrights@columbus.in.gov by Friday, February 13, at 5 p.m.
